Avoiding online credit card scams is important to keeping your money, credit rating and identity details safe. As identity theft can happen to anyone, taking steps to protect yourself is vital. Recovering your stolen money and repairing your credit rating can be a long and difficult process.

Here are some tips to help protect you from online credit card fraud:

• Check your credit card statements regularly for inconsistencies. Signing up for online banking will let you check your credit card frequently.
• Create a difficult to guess password and PIN and change it regularly.
• Don't share your passwords and PINs with anyone.
• Keep all your receipts and check them against your credit card statement. Report any suspicious activity on your statements at once.
• When shopping online, confirm the security and credibility of the site. Look for the padlock icon in the right hand corner.
• Have reliable protection software on your computer and keep it updated.
