Avoid fraud with your online credit cards
22 July 2008
It's important to remember that you must try to protect yourself when using your online credit cards. While your credit card companies take many precautions to protect the details of your online credit cards, you must also be responsible and have safeguards in place.
- Never respond to emails claiming to be from you bank and never follow any links in the email. Banks do not send out emails to their customers. This is most likely a phishing scam. Never give out details of your online credit cards.
- Protect the passwords of your online credit cards. Make the passwords hard to guess. Try using a mixture of letters and numbers. Change them on a regular basis.
- Make sure the website is secure. Look for the padlock in the right hand corner to make sure the site is secure.
- Protect your computer. Install reputable virus checkers, spyware detectors and firewalls and use them on a regular basis.
