Staying safe with online credit cards
Monday April 21, 2008
Online credit cards can be used to make purchasing a variety of things far easier than with other payment methods. You may worry about the security of such transactions, but by merely being sensible about your online security you will find that you can reliably make transactions with online credit cards.
If you are concerned about the ability of other people to commit credit card fraud with your online credit cards you should just remember the CVV code on the back of your card. This three digit number helps to confirm that you possess the card that you are using the number for. It isn't actually a part of your credit card number, so it helps to keep you safe with online transactions.
When making transactions with your online credit cards, the high levels of security available these days mean it is extremely unlikely that you would be defrauded by a third party during your transaction. More likely would be an attack against your computer, which if unprotected by anti-virus software and a firewall would be open to Trojan horses such as key logger programs. A key logger notes key presses and sends them to another computer, endangering your credit card details and passwords. Frequent virus scans and cleans should help to ensure you don't fall victim to one.
